Downloaded ICQ without any difficulty, got my Nickname (MikeO) and ICQ number (475016938). By using posts on the Curtin Blackboard I was able to add other students to my contact list. However I failed to use ICQ as a chat medium as it never showed any contacts as available. I did convince one of my fellow student from Google Chat to register but she was scared to use ICQ due to all the bad "press" it had received.
- The one thing I think I would have liked about using ICQ was it had a Spell Checker, a tool I badly need as the world's worst speller.
- My experience with Google Chat and Windows Live Messenger was much more rewarding and positive, as I hooked up a number of times with various groups of students.
- I use SKYPE as a chat method normally and have done so for some years. I find it is very productive in an office situation and have set it up for a company with offices and warehouses in all capital cities and also their sales people out on the road have it on their laptops. It allows all staff to send quick instant short messages without the need for "small talk" or costly phone calls, plus it saves a lot employee down time when a ten second text will convey a short crisp message like "Running late, printing report, with you in 5, sorry".
